How to Move? Part 2

Moving can be a very stressful endeavour if you don’t know what you’re doing. To give you some idea on what to do during the actual moving day, we’ve compiled a quick rundown to help you make it as easy as possible. Check them out below and see how you can apply them.

1. Prepare for a long day

Try to get as much sleep as you can on the night before because it’s going to be a long day and you’ll need all the energy you can get. Make sure to get up early. Grab some breakfast.

2. Confirm what time the movers will be arriving

Responsible companies will call to tell you that they are on their way. If not, try to call them yourself and ask about their status.

3. Be friendly to the movers

Try to stay on their good side. They’ll be handling your things after all. When they arrive, greet them and give them a tour of the house. Tell them exactly what they need to do and listen to any advice they may have.

4. Make sure they know what they’re doing

Despite being friendly to them, you should also let them know that they have to be professional and that they need to meet your expectations. Ask specific questions to check if they know what they’re doing.

5. Clean the house one last time

It’s not just a courtesy to the new owners, it’s a way for you to check if everything that has to go has been packed and loaded.

6. Contact the new owners of the house

Make sure to befriend the new owners of the house. On moving day, create a note for them or call them up to remind them about where your new residence will be. This way, they can forward any mail that’s addressed to you.

7. Don’t sign anything until  you are satisfied

Have a final walkthrough around the house and check if you or the movers have missed anything. Only after this can you sign any documents required by the company.

8. Check your keys

Make sure that you have the keys to your new home. As for your old ones, drop them off accordingly.

9. Double-check your personal luggage

Double check the items that you will be bringing yourself.  Make sure you don’t leave anything important.

10. Close up.

Unplug and switch off all electrical materials, lock the house, take one last look, say goodbye and… go on your way!

The key is to be as calm and as organized as possible. Inspire your movers by being a friendly, yet responsible client. Panicking will get you nowhere so take your time and do it step-by-step.
