Hiring Professional Moving Companies in Flat Rates

What is flat-rate moving?

Moving can be a very tricky challenge. There are many factors to consider and one of the (if not THE) most important things to note is the rate of how you will be charged by professional moving companies.

The most typical way customers get charged is by the hour or by the minute- in other words, depending on the time it takes to get the job done. There are some good and bad points to this system but we’ll elaborate on that later.

Now we move to the second type of charging- flat rates. Professional moving companies that offer flat rates mean that for a specific job, they will quote you with a specific amount and that’s that. No more additions, no more hidden costs.

Flat-rate VS hourly rates

You may be wondering what the difference is between hourly and flatrate charging, and today we’ll try to differentiate the two.

For hourly rates, yes, you do have a specific base rate that we will be computed depending on how long the job takes, but this does not include the numerous additional charges that you can incur during the move. A few examples include charges when the movers have to go up and down a flight of stairs, or when they have to walk far to get access to their truck. Others don’t include the charges for packing your things. In addition to this, you can get ripped off if the movers you get are lazy or dishonest. Even if they move slowly, you will still have to pay them by the hour.

For flat rates however, the overall price package will be given to you right from the get go. They decide upon the cost of the project before it begins depending on your requirements. This involves everything from packing to loading, unloading to unpacking. Most people will argue that flat rates are higher than when you compute for an hourly rate, but when you consider all of the additional costs that will add up on hourly packages, flat rates are a surer way to go.

Advantages of getting flat rates

  • Reduced risk of questionable fees, unexplained charges, and unfair mark-ups
  • Assurance that your movers will work faster because they are not paid by the hour
  • You don’t waste money, paying for lazy hours or lunch breaks
  • You get full service, no additional options with charge

So the next time you get in touch with professional movers, ask them if they are willing to offer you flat rates, and make sure to get several options for comparison.
