How to Find a Reliable Long Distance Moving Company

Reliable long distance movers

There are a lot of long distance moving companies in the market, but what you need is a reliable moving company. Why is this so? Simple- because amidst accredited movers, there are also a lot of scammers and cheaters, that are out to deceive unknowing customers.

What to look for

In order to find a good and honest company who knows that they are doing, you have to ask the following questions:

1. Are you registered and accredited?

A reliable moving company should have a license number issued by the Federal Motor Carrier and Safety Administration (FMCSA). Check if they have a  DOT License Number and a Motor Carrier Number.

2. What is your BBB rating?

The Better Business Bureau or BBB is one of the best market checkers in the moving industry. Accredited movers who are members of the BBB are bound to follow the organizations standards and should have a good rating.

3. What are your rates?

Look for honesty. When an estimator gives you a quote, check if it is matches the amount of your possessions. Find out if there will be a lot of additional charges in the long run. Be wary of companies that ask for huge upfront payments as well as those with extremely low estimates that are too good to be true. Their price should be something that will strike a fair balance between the movers and the customer.

4. What are your payment options?

Accredited movers that are established in the business usually offer different modes of payment (such as credit cards). In addition, stay away from any company that demands a big amount of cash prior to the move.

5. Do you offer insurance?

A reliable moving company will give you the option to protect your items from theft, loss or damage. Find out about the insurance coverage and its corresponding price.

6. Do you use subcontractors?

Some long distance movers use subcontractors for the transport. At times, there might also be additional transfers. Although this can be a legitimate practice, opt for companies that have their own comprehensive network of trucks, vans and storage facilities.

7. Are there additional fees?

A good, reliable moving company will be honest about any additional charges that you may incur. Even if you don’t have it yet, they should at least inform you of the possibilities.

Where to find them?

It’s always best to have referrals from your people you know and websites you trust. In any case, you can try to search for long distance movers in your local listings, through phone books, or via the internet.

Make sure to do as much research as you can. The more you know, the better your chances of finding the best and most reliable moving company for your needs.
